Jesse Puljujarvi Crushes Ryan Dzingel's Knee [Video]
Ryan Dzingel had to exit the Oilers - Senators game midway through third period after Jesse Puljujarvi tripped him and crushed his knee Wednesday night.
The Ottawa Senators night went from bad to worse as injuries and goals plagued the team from beginning to end. Not only did they lose Dzingel to injury, but Colin White also exited the game during the second period aft slamming into the boards awkwardly.
Then the Oilers had a points field day, Leon Draisaitl had a hat trick and two assists, Connor McDavid potted one and also snatched two assists, Darnell Nurse had a goal and an assist, Jujhar Khaira and James Neal netted goals and Tyson Barrie snagged three assists.
Darnell Nurse opened the scoring with his seventh of the season 3:52 into the first period. Jujhar Khaira tallied his at 5:57 to make it 2-0, then Leon Draisaitl scored a power-play goal. Shortly after that Connor McDavid notched his goal and the Oilers were up 4-0 with 6:34 still left to play in the first.
Then came the injuries.
Colin White was the first to get shot down. He lost an edge and crashed awkwardly into the boards as he was coming in on the forecheck. White needed help leaving the ice and was unable to put weight on his left leg. The severity of White's injury is unknown as there was no update on him after the game.
Dzingel was the second to bit the bullet after Puljujarvi tripped him along the boards during a battle for puck possession. The trip was no accident, but what came next, clearly, was.
The trip caused Dzingel to catch an edge and twist awkwardly on his right leg. He probably would have been fine had Dzingel not lost his focus and fall onto the right knee as it was bent in a weird angle.
Clearly nothing went right for the Senators Wednesday and the score board and injury list reflected that.
The Edmonton Oilers destroyed the Ottawa Senators 7-1.
