Brandon Hagel Torpedoed Patrik Laine With Right Hook [Fight]

Patrik Laine didn't win the fight, but he did win the respect of his teammates and John Tortorella, when he fought Chicago rookie Brandon Hagel. Hagel left his feet when he launched himself into Jack Roslovic and Laine quickly jumped to his defense.

Before Patriki Laine had his first NHL fight, he put Columbus on the board first with a wrister from the top of the right circle with 13:21 left to play in the first.

With 4:54 left in the first period Laine drop the gloves for his first fight. Off the bat, Laine started swinging and tagged Hagel four times in the back of the head. It looked to be a strong showing for Laine's first fight, but the rookie Hagel drilled him once in the mouth and it quickly escalated from there. Realizing it wasn't going to end well, he tried to evade and swing a haymaker at Hagel, poor choice. Hagel calmly ducked it and delivered the mother-of-all right hooks to the left side of Laine's face. Instantly Laine went down to the ice.

Brandon Hagel wins it with a TKO, but congrats to Laine for stepping up for Roslovic. In the long run, the act of fighting will have meant more than the actual fight itself.  

Chicago had two power plays in the first period that came up goose egg. It wasn't until the second that Beaudin tied the game with 16:48 left in the period. The rookie defenseman beat Korpisalo glove side with a wrister from the right circle.

With the game tied 1-1, Cam Atkinson had a nice redirected on Zach Werenski’s long shot that was heading for the crossbar. The puckshot down and bounced through Lankinen’s legs making it 2-1 with 5:13 left in the period.

The Blue Jackets carried their 2-1 lead deep into the third, but Carl Soderberg tied it up with his first of the season. Soderberg slammed a shot from the high slot off the left post and in with 3:45 left in the third. 

Neither team was able to score in the waning seconds of the third, so this game had to go to OT.

Alex DeBrincat got a bouncing pass from Patrick Kane in OT, tipped it into the air and then knocked it in off Joonas Korpisalo’s arm for his eighth goal of the season. It was a mere 35 seconds into OT whe DeBrincat scored and gave the Chicago Blackhawks a hard earned 2pts.

The Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2.
